Where to stay in Barcelona – Local tips

Where to stay in Barcelona?

You’ve decided to go to Barcelona, the city of sunshine, tapas and of course Gaudí. Then the first question will be: Where to stay?

In the tourist capital of Spain there are plenty of great places to stay but this doesn’t make it easier for you to maka a choice. We asked our local team of Xventura Barcelona for the hotels, hostels and apartments they recommend to their friends and family when they come to visit. Out of these local recommendations we made a shortlist for you. A list with our 4 favourite places to stay in Barcelona.

Our 4 favourite places to stay in Barcelona

Tom, Dorien, Anna and Beni are Barcelona locals and know the city inside out. In this post they share their favourite places to stay in Barcelona with you.

JAM Hostel Barcelona

JAM Hostal Barcelona

The neighborhood Grácia is home to our guide Tom: “For me there is no better neighborhood to live than Grácia. I love the local shops and sunny squares in this former village. I always recommend my friends and family to stay in mi barrio (my neighborhood).” In Grácia you find several hotels and hostels but Tom’s favourite is JAM Hostel Barcelona, an eco-friendly hostel in the middle of Grácia.

JAM hostel Barcelona contributes to the promotion of responsible tourism in the city of Barcelona. They do this by, among others, using resource saving measures (water and energy), acoustic and thermal isolation and use of renewal energy.

The eco Jam Hostel Barcelona has mixed dorms for four up to nine people, a women’s dorm and one double private bedroom. “This hostel is great when you are traveling on a budget but are not looking for a party hostel. A big plus is the terrace where you can enjoy a relaxing yoga class” Tom says.

EnjoyApartments

Enjoy Apartments
Private terrace at the Batllo Luxury I Apartment

Our manager Dorien lives in Barcelona since 2017. “To celebrate our twenty years of friendship my friendsgroup from the Netherlands came to Barcelona. We wanted something special, so looked for a spacious apartment with a terrace. We stayed at the Batllo Luxury I Apartment of Enjoy Apartments and loved everything about it!” says Dorien. “The location was amazing, just around the corner of Passeig the Gracia. And every morning we enjoyed a lovely breakfast in the sun on our own terrace. Just perfect!”

At EnjoyApartments guests are central. Before, during and after the stay. The goal is that guests don’t have to worry about anything but enjoying their stay. EnjoyApartments offers extra 24/7 services and will make sure to do a personal check you in when you arrive. “I really liked the personal destination guide that I received after booking the apartment. In the destination guide I could find the coolest hotspots and favourite things to do of the EnjoyApartments team. This guide is super helpful when you don’t know Barcelona yet and gave even me, a local, some great inspiration.”

EnjoyApartments offers short-stay, monthly– and long-term ‘affordable luxury’ apartments. The apartments can be found at the best locations in Barcelona. They always have a great amount of natural light, good quality furniture and a fully equipped kitchen. This is ideal when you are visiting Barcelona for business, with your family or with friends. Enjoy Apartments offers different types of apartments. So, whether you come with your family of four or group of fourteen friends, there is a suitable apartment for everyone!

Anna, CEO of Xventura Barcelona, travels back and forward between her home city Rotterdam (the Netherlands) and Barcelona at least once a month. “I like to stay in a hotel or hostel that is located nearby the Xventura office in El Born. Hostal Girona is only a ten minutes’ walk from Passeig del Born and exceeded my expectations.” Hostal Girona occupies the entire first floor of an impressive 19th-century modernist building in the Eixample district.

“It’s a family run business where you will feel immediately at home. You can notice in everything that costumers’ satisfaction is their top priority. I love this because that is also our top priority at Xventura.”

Hostal Girona has several single, double and triple rooms. Some of them are completed with an ensuite bathroom, others have a shared bathroom. All the rooms are beautifully decorated with antiques yet comfortable wooden furniture.

Room Mate Hotel Anna

Hotel Room Mate Anna

Besides working as a professional gamemaster for Xventura, Beni also works as team manager for Room Mate Hotel Anna, a 4-star design boutique hotel in the center of Barcelona. “I may be a little prejudiced, but I really don’t think there’s a better place to stay than in this hotel. Everything is great: The location, the architecture, the rooms and of course, the staff!” Says Beni.

Room Mate Hotels has five different locations in Barcelona. All the hotels are located in the Eixample district. You can find Beni’s favorite, Room Mate Anna, around the corner of Gaudi’s masterpiece Casa Batlló.

Room Mate Anna is a design hotel decorated by the antique expert and interior designer Lorenzo Castillo. The hotel is a tribute to the sea, the sun and the Mediterranean so puts you in a holiday mood from the second you enter. The hotel has comfortable and luxurious rooms, from standard rooms to a junior suite. An extra plus of the hotel is its terrace, where you can sunbathe and take a refreshing jump in the pool after a day of hard work or discovering the city.

Top 10 Barcelona favorite places of our manager Dorien

Meet Dorien, manager of Xventura in Barcelona.

In this blogpost our manager Dorien shares her favorite places in Barcelona with you. Dorien comes from the Netherlands and lived in Barcelona during a half year sabbatical in 2015. It was then that she fell in love with this magical city. In the summer of 2017 she moved back to Barcelona. Dorien loves to discover new places and that’s one of the main reasons she loves living in Barcelona. “There is always a new restaurant, hip coffee place or adorable little street to discover” tells Dorien us. After working as a biketour-guide for more than two years she knows the city as the back of her hand. This comes in handy when she develops and organizes new Treasure Hunts for Xventura. In this blog Dorien takes you to her favorite places so that you can enjoy Barcelona like a local.

“Barcelona is such a beautiful city but most of the tourists don’t go further than the Ramblas and Plaza Catalunya. This is such a pity because there is so much more to discover! For that reason, I will share some of my favorite places in and outside the city center with you.”

Dorien’s Favourite places in Barcelona

Funky Bakers · El Born

First things first. For my daily coffee boost I go to Funky Bakers. I am more than happy to have this bakery around the corner of our Xventura office. Besides great coffees they also make delicious sweets and sandwiches – the French Onion Soup Cheese Sandwich is my favorite. Oh and, I had to made a deal with myself that I can only have 3 of their chocolate chip cookies a week. #guiltypleasure

Cosmo La Central · Eixample

Not far from Passeig de Gracia you find Cosmo La Central. I recently discovered this two storage bookstore in the heart of l’Eixample. I love this place because of all of the books but even more because of the little cafeteria that is hidden on the second floor. I love to go here to read a book and drink a ‘café con leche’ under the trees on their cozy terrace that is facing the inside of a manzana (house block in l’Eixample). There is no wi-fi, so time to disconnect! Exactly how we like it at Xventura, because during our treasure hunts we also want people to disconnect. Therefor the games are played 100% offline. Cool right!

Caseta de Migdia · Parc de Montjuic

Far away from loud tourists and crazy traffic, you find this hidden gem. Caseta de Migda is located on the Montjuic hill in between the Castell and the cemetery. This little building used to be an electricity building until the city hall gave permission to make it into a bar. At night you can enjoy life music, an ice cold beer and some simple dishes. The building itself is tiny so you will sit at the terrace under the trees with views over Barcelona’s port. Don’t forget to wear your hiking boots because without a motorbike or car it’s quiet a walk to get here! For current opening hours check: www.casetamigdia.es

Cementerio de Montjuic · Parc de Montjuic

Not that far from la Caseta de Migdia you find Barcelona’s biggest cemetery. When I have friends coming over that already know the city, I take them here. Succes guaranteed! The Cementerio de Montjuic is built on the Montjuic hills and, is for me, one of the most impressive places of the city. Generations of families found their eternal resting place on this hill. Walk from the upper part all the way down and follow the tour that is marked with QR codes. It’s a super peaceful place and the views are amazing!

Las Vermudas · Gracia

Vermouth = booming! I remember that my Spanish friend Ana was totally confused when I told her I was going ´for Vermut´ at 10 at night. She was pretty sure I was making a Spanish language mistake and meant 10 in the morning.  That was, for her, a way more logical time to drink this aromatized, fortified wine. Vermouth is an aperitif and is often served with olives and some chips. On weekends, you’ll see groups of friends sipping vermouth on the terraces before having lunch at 2 or 3pm. At Las Vermudas every time of the day is a good moment to drink Vermouth. The owners are super friendly and will recommend you which Vermouth matches your taste. Oh, and last but not least: on Thursday nights and Sundays at noon there is live music. Go here!

El Jardi · El Raval

You might start to find a pattern in my favorite spaces. Most of them are a bit hidden and have a quiet and cozy atmosphere. Coming from a village of only 1000 inhabitants Barcelona can still feel a bit overwhelming to me. At these moments I need some quiet me-time. I find this me-time in places like El Jardi. I already fell in love with this restaurant in Raval in 2015. This restaurant is hidden in the backyard of the old hospital Sant Pau where you can now find la Biblioteca de Catalunya (the Library of Catalonia). Go here for a drink or treat yourself on some of their delicious tapas.

Little Streets of el Born · El Born

Favorite places in Barcelona Treasure hunt with Xventura

El Born used to be ´the undiscovered Barcelona’. With booming tourism, there is not that much left of this. Nevertheless, El Born is still one of my favorite neighborhoods. Only a footstep away of the Santa Maria del Mar (and of the Xventura office, lucky me!) you find my all-time favorite streets. ‘Carrer dels Mirallers’ and the little alleys around there are still a bit undiscoverd compared with the bigger streets around them.

Walking around here brings you back in time. Don’t forget to bring your camera because there are a million of Instagram-worthy spots in these cozy streets.  Wander around and take a look in one of the small boutiques, concept stores or jewelers. Need a break? Take a cocktail pause at ´Dr. Stravinsky’ or enjoy some amazing ‘tapas with a twist’ at ‘Ziryab’. Curious to see more of beautiful el Born? Book Xventura’s Treasure Hunt ‘The Artist’ and get the full experience while playing an exciting game!

Xampagneria · Barceloneta

In my list of  Barcelona favorite places to go Xampagneria can’t miss. Okay, I have to admit that this place is pretty guiri**, but nevertheless it’s one of my favorite places to spend time with friends. The official name of this bar is Can Paixano, named after the cava brand and that’s why they only serve cava or water here. You can order the cava by glass, but the glasses are tiny and the bottles cheap so I would recommend to order a bottle (or 2, or 3…;-)).

If you order a bottle you have to get some food with it (the croquetas are delicious!). I assume that this is because they don’t want you to get too drunk too fast. But actually I never checked if that was the reason. Even though this place is 70% filled with tourists, the waiters don’t speak any English (or pretend they don’t) so an extra plus for this place is that you will be able to practice your Spanish. Before you go it’s good to know that
1. There are no seats
2. It can be pretty crowded at night
3. Xampagneria is open from 9.00 till 22.00.
4. You probably won’t leave this place sober (and that’s exactly why I love it so much!)

*Guiri: (Urban Dictionary def.) “A somewhat pejorative term for a foreigner, usually a tourist, who happens to be in Spain and stands out as being pretty obviously not a local”

Jardines de Pedralbes · Sarria

This beautiful park is located outside of the city center what makes it pretty unknown by tourists. During the years 1919 till 1931 this was the residence of the royal family of Spain when they came to Barcelona and before that is belonged to Eusabi Guell, the very same that owned Park Guell. On the trails of the park you’ll find people running, walking, reading a book and enjoying nature. I got to know this park during the annual ‘Festival Jardins del Palau Reial of Pedralbes’ that takes place every summer in June and July. I have never been to a festival in such a mysterious, magical and romantic place. Buy your tickets soon because the concerts sell out fast!

Barcelona tip número 10:

Recinte Modernista de Sant Pau · Baix Guinardó

This amazing building is a former hospital complex built between 1901 and 1930. The hospital is designed by Lluís Domènech I Montaner and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site since. I live around the corner of this amazing building and I like to tell people that I have views on the Hospital Sant Pau from my terrace. Well, that is true. Kind of. I don’t tell them that I have to risk my life by hanging over the edge of my terrace to catch a glimpse of it but… A view is a view, right?!

Even though Hospital Sant Pau is just a 10-minute walk from la Sagrada Familia you won’t find too many tourists here. Buy a ticket and enjoy the amazing architecture of the pavilions, look at the pictures of Barcelona in the early 20th century and go for a walk in the hospitals garden. This is one of my Barcelona favourite places!

Summer in Barcelona – Things to do

Summer in Barcelona

Time to enjoy the summer!

This means that there are tons of fun outdoor activities, festivals and things to do in Barcelona.

We can imagine that it´s hard to pick the things you want to do when you have a day off or are visiting this lovely city. In this article we will give you some ideas to make this an unforgettable summer in Barcelona!

Drinking a beer on Plaza del Sol

The neighborhood Vila de Gracia used to be an independent village until it got annexed by Barcelona in 1887. In this neighborhood full of beautiful squares, arty shops and two floor houses you still feel like you are in a small town instead of a metropole. Go for a stroll in the late afternoon when the streets are packed with local families who are doing the same. Give your feet some rest and take a break at Plaza del Sol, the square of the Sun. This Square in the middle of Gracia is famous for (mostly young) people sitting there while drinking a beer bought in one of the supermarkets around the squares. Who needs a table and a chair if you can just sit on the floor like the locals do?

Look at the sunset at Caseta de Migdia

If you are looking for a chill night surrounded by locals, La Caseta de Migdia is the hidden treasure you are looking for. This cute outdoor bar is hidden in the forest on the top of the Montjuic Mountain, from where you have beautiful views over the sea and the mountain. In summer La Caseta opens from Wednesday till Sunday and offers life music while you can enjoy there (simple) menu, a cold drink and a magical sunset. For the exact opening hours, take a look on their website.

Treasure Hunt with Xventura

Xventura treasure hunt Barcelona teambuilding groupactivity
Fun with friends

In summer the mornings or late afternoons are the perfect moment to discover the old city center. The medieval streets of Ciutat Vella (Old Town) are covered in shade what keeps them nice and cool. You can walk around on your own but why not try something different? Discover Barcelona in a new way by going on a Treasure Hunt. Xventura´s private guide tells you the most interesting and fun facts about the places you are. After that you are going to solve challenges and puzzles like an enigma machine and a Cryptex. Use your teams brainpower to find the secret location. But be careful and don´t get lost; because you will get nothing more than a compass and a map to find your way through Barcelona´s oldest and most narrow streets.

Festa mayor de Gracia

During the year every barri (Catalan for neighborhood) in Barcelona celebrates its Festa Mayor, literally translated as Big Party. Starting on the 15thof August the city’s biggest and most popular neighborhood party takes place: Festa Mayor de Gracia. During this 7-day celebration you can enjoy the decorated streets where neighbors have worked on for months. There is music on every corner, there are castellers (human towers), street parades, correfoc and street dinners. Festa Mayor can be a bit overwhelming as it gets more popular every year but it is definitely worth a visit.

Open Air Cinema

In summer there are several options to enjoy an open air cinema in Barcelona. You can watch a movie on the Montjuic or at the beach, but these two open-air cinema´s only run until the beginning of August. A very good and not that well-known option is Mecal Air Barcelona. This short film cinema runs every Saturday until La Festa de la Mercè (September 24th) at the lake behind the Museu del Disseney de Barcelona (Jardins Elisava). This stunning location is just outside of the city center and easy accesable by public transport. Best of all: It´s free! So be on time and find yourself the best spot to enjoy a summer movie night.

Noche mágica de Casa Batllo

The magic nights of Casa Batllo. On Passeig de Gracia you find Casa Batllo. Inspired on the Catalan legend of Saint Jordi, Gaudi designed a house with a roof that looks like the dragon’s bag and pillars that look like bones. Because of it´s interesting details Casa Battlos is called Casa dels Ossos (house of the bones) by Barcelona´s locals. During summer the ques can be long and when you are inside you have to share the space with many others. Luckily you can also visit the house at night and enjoy a magic night with live music and a cocktail on the roof or this spectacular building. The magic nights of Casa Batllo offer different kind of music styles. From flamenco to soul and from rumba to jazz. Buy your ticket and enjoy Gaudi´s magical house.

Of course there are 100 other things to do in and around Barcelona, but let´s kick off with this list. are you looking for something to do with kids? Read “Barcelona with kids: 5 fun things to do”.

Visiting Barcelona with kids is anything but boring. Have you ever thought of a Scavenger Hunt and exploring the old city center in a fun and exciting way? Or how about looking out over the city in an airplane from 1928?

Which young (or older) boy wouldn´t get excited about that?!

3. Barcelona´s beaches

After a morning of strolling through the city and looking at Gaudi’s masterpieces there is nothing better than some relax time at the beach. While your kids take a swim in the Mediterranean Sea, you can enjoy an ice cold sangria at one of the chiringuitos (beach clubs). The beach of Vila Olimpica is one of the best family friendly beaches of the city because it has a big playground. For the older kids there are many possibilities to do water sport like surfing and stand-up-paddle.

4. Tibidabo

It´s hard to miss. Barcelona´s highest mountain, the Tibidabo, is visible from everywhere in the city. Besides the Catadral de Santa Cor the Tibidabo also is home to the Tibidabo Amusement Park. Don´t expect trilling rollercoasters and the newest inventions; Tibidabo Amusement Park was founded in 1889 and some of the attractions are not much younger than that. Tibidabo is definitely worth a visit! Enjoy the breathtaking view over the city, sea and Catalonia´s inland in the park´s most stand-out attraction and world’s first flight simulator Avió (Catalan for plane) or at the top of the Catadral.

5. CosmaCaixa

Looking for something to do on one of Barcelona´s extremely hot summer days? CosmoCaixa is your place to be! This indoor science museum is air-conditioned and for that reason a great place to visit if you are in need of cooling down. CosmoCaixa is designed to stimulate people´s knowledge of science through interactive exhibitions and fun activities. Explore the “The Flooded Forest”, a recreation of an Amazon rainforest. Or travel through time and space at the Planetarium, where 3D movies explain you the laws of the universe.

Christmas in Barcelona

It is Christmas time in Barcelona!

If you have ever been to Barcelona in December then you must have seen Tio! Christmas in Barcelona is not complete without this guy. If you are wondering, who is Tio and why is he everywhere in the city? Well, we will tell you!

Christmas in Barcelona with Tio de Nadal

December is a magical month! Christmas lights everywhere, classic Christmas songs and people shopping for the perfect gift for their loved ones. Christmas markets pop-up at the plazas and the city is bussing with the Christmas spirit. It is truly an amazing time to be in Barcelona.

The stalls of the Christmas market display the traditional Christmas decoration but in Barcelona, you can also find a very special guy, Tió. A popular tradition in Barcelona and Catalunya. They call him: ‘Tió de Nadal’ or ‘Caga tió’.

Christmas markets Barcelona

The Santa Llúcia fair

Where: in front of the Cathedral

When: 30 November to 23 December

Sagrada Familia fair

Where: Plaça de la Sagrada Família

When: 24 November – 23 December

The word Tió in the Catalan language means ‘log’. Tió is a log with a face painted on it with a red hat on his head and a red blanket on the back of the log covering the end of the log.

The log has two wooden sticks as legs so he is supporting himself and looking at you. He comes in different sizes, small to big and always with a red hat on his head.

From the 8th of December, the log gets fed with sweets. Children will feed him and the parents sometimes switch Tio for a bigger Tio when Christmas evening is getting closer making the children believe that Tio is getting fatter.

On Christmas evening the children get a stick and hit Tio. They sing a song, Caga Tio, to make the log poop out the presents!

Viggo Mortensen explains Tió:

Even if you are not a fan of this tradition, a visit to the city in the December month is worth the trip. There are lots of Christmas markets and the streets are decorated with Christmas lights from November 22 till the 6th of January.

Top 9 favourite places in Barcelona

Weekend planned in Barcelona and want to find out the local spots in the city? Besides our unique treasure hunt experience, we also know a lot of amazing local spots in the city. Hidden gems and local spots to eat and enjoy the Barcelona lifestyle. Curious about the top 9 favorite spots of our guides? Check out the tips and go explore!

TIP 1 – Turó Park

‘Just off the beaten path, away from the crowds, you can discover a whole other side of Barcelona. After having visited all the tourist sites dozens of times, I was in need of something else but where to start? So I checked with the locals. They know better than anyone else, where to find the real Barcelona. If you are not a first-time visitor to Barcelona, you know that there are enough parks around. But have you been to the Turó Park? This hidden gem is a best-kept secret of the city. This park brings peace and tranquillity to everyone, even to me. When you enter the park through the gigantic gate, walk through to the center to the heart of this park: Pinhan-El Jardi Secret. The name may already reveal it, but this hidden and romantic bistro brings together nature, happiness, food, and love. From healthy snacks with hummus to a delicious cheese platter. Enjoy the singing birds with a drink in your hand sitting outside on the terras 16.00. If you like picnics, make sure to arrive before 13.00 and ask for their special ‘Pinhan desayuno’. Let yourself be surprised and admire the Turó Park. ’

– Sherine

Tip 2 – La Xampanyeria

‘This place is perhaps not so secret anymore, but certainly worth mentioning. A place where it is not about the good music, the comfortable seats or the luxury service. This place is where you can get the best cava in town. Lots of places in Barcelona claim to have the best cava but if you want to experience the one then go to La Xampanyeria. The guys who manage this bar brew their own cava which they then sell again by glass or bottle. For a nice price of € 1.60 you have your own glass of freshly brewed cava in your hands. Do not forget to order the typical tapas, such as the fuet or manchego. Buen provecho!’

– Sherine

top 9 places barcelona

Tip 3 – A tu Bola

‘Getting tired of the standard tapas and want to try something new? Then go to my favorite place on the Rambla de Raval, called A tu Bola. The name may already reveal it, but here they serve everything in/as balls. From meatballs to falafel balls to the chicken balls. Raval is generally a neighborhood where many hidden spots can be found, but this is surely my number one. Fresh, something new and very healthy! My favorite is to order the tapa, pita bread with either Boniato or the Quiona ball. One to lick your fingers 😉 ‘

– Anna

Tip 4 – Sant Just church

‘In this case, it is not about the church itself, but about the magical view from the roof of the church. Do not ask me how I got here, but I’m glad I know. My favorite spot is located on top of the church of Sant Just in the Gotic. Few people know about this and that makes it so special and especially nice and quiet;). For as much as € 2, – you can go all the way up. Go on time because the church is not always open.’

– Anna

Tip 5 – La Caseta de Migdia

‘Nature and Barcelona, two concepts that go well together. When you are in the city and look around you, you understand what I mean. The Montjuic mountain is certainly the most popular in the city. Not only the Olympic venues can be found here, but also beautiful relaxing open-air restaurants such as La Caseta de Migdia. For the view alone, you should pay a visit to this hidden place. Their standard dish is a plato with bread, a sausage, a chicken leg, and a green salad. It sounds very simple, but sometimes simple is the best ingredient. ‘

– Pieter

Tip 6 – Torre de Collserola

‘Because Barcelona had been given the honor to organize the 1992 Olympics, many things were left behind of this big event. Like, the Torre de Collserola, the antenna. This gigantic antenna can be seen everywhere in the city. When you stand next to it and it disappears into the clouds, you get a magical feeling. Not only the antenna itself, but also the environment provides an enormous rest, disconnecting from the hustle and bustle of the city and coming all the way to yourself during a walk. Highly recommended for those who love the nature. ‘

– Pieter

Tip 7 -Carabela Café

‘You can have good food in Barcelona in many places, but you also want a nice and cozy terrace and an affordable menu. This combined with a hunger for Mexican food will bring you the Carabela Café. Not only the nachos but also the tacos and burritos are excellent. As the cafe is situated in one of the most touristic areas of Barcelona, the spot itself is not very hidden, but I still want to introduce you to this nice place. If you have found your spot on the terrace, take a look at the extensive cocktail menu and enjoy the cozy music in the background.’

– Laurha

Tip 8 – La Cala Barceloneta

‘When I discovered this place I was so happy, a place without tourists (okay little), but still in the heart of Barceloneta. Something that in my eyes could not really be true, but it turned out to be true. La Cala Barceloneta is run by a Catalan family and the coffees and sandwiches are made with love. The place itself is not very big and that makes it oh so nice. The terrace is amazing for the sunny months in Barcelona.’

– Laurha

Tip 9 – Carretera de les Aigües

‘Very well known amongst the locals but a very well kept secret for the tourists. Carretera de les Aigües lies against the mountains surrounding Barcelona. It is a 10km long path that used to be a pipeline, therefore it is completely flat. Locals come here to run, walk and enjoy the sun. Especially in the mornings, it gets busy but in the afternoon if you go around lunchtime, then you have the path all to yourself. To get here, take the train from Plaza Catalunya towards Terrasa or Sabadell (S1 or S2). Here you can go up with your T10 ticket and get off at Peu de Funicular, change to the Funicular, a small train that brings you from Vallvidrera Inferior to Vallvidrera Superior. From here you can easily find the path. Enjoy the great views of the city while you’re in the middle of the mountains. “

A teambuilding weekend in Barcelona means that you are spending a couple of days together. A new environment, different language and culture. This triggers and stimulates your team and create a feeling of excitement and solidarity.

From the director to the project managers, from the marketing assistant to the HR manager, everybody is equal because you left the traditional roles at the office. Your team is experiencing and learning new thing about each other and this is great for the team spirit. Besides that, taking them on a trip to Barcelona is also a gesture of appreciation to your team.

Criteria for teambuilding activities

Besides discovering a new city and building the mutual bond, a good teambuilding activity should not be missed. Pay attention to the following conditions, because choosing the right activity is important.

An activity must meet the following conditions:

1.A clear goal or purpose

Not only in your work you need a clear goal but also in your activity. A clear goal in your activity enhance the team spirit and brings the group together. For example, learning to dance salsa, or discovering your inner Gaudi with an art workshop. Eating tapas and drinking is nice, but doesn’t really contribute to the teambuilding long term.

2. Clear tasks and roles within the team

A good task distribution within the team is essential. Who does what and who is responsible for what? You are organizing a team event, so it should not feel like work! But you could think of, for example, a treasure hunt or an afternoon sailing.

3. Mutual trust

Trust is very important within a team but sometimes there is a lack of trust amongst team members. An activity can help to regain this trust. Games are a good option for this, you agree on the rules and you stick to them. If a game is played under the right circumstances and guidance, you learn a lot from it.

4. Talent in your team

Bring out the best in each other! Everyone approaches a problem in his or her way, the one is not better than the other but you can see the talents on your team. Use them! An activity that can help you with finding the talents could be an escape room. You will need to complete various challenges. A skilled guide or coach can help to bring out the talents in the group!

At Xventura we love designing games to help companies with their teams. We believe in the power of play and that you can learn more from playing a game together rather than sitting in a meeting room. Therefore, we have developed two unique treasure hunt concepts that will improve communication, collaboration and most importantly, are a lot of fun!

  1. A Exciting Treasure Hunt Race

  2. A Custom Made Program

TREASURE HUNT:

An adventure to discover the city. The treasure hunt takes about 2/3 hours and is a game that aims to find the secret location. It is set up so that everyone can participate. The treasure hunts contains several different elements, therefore, you will need all the talent on your team to complete the challenges. You have a clear goal; find the secret location! You will have to divide the tasks and use the talents in your group.

But what makes our treasure hunt so unique? The game is played without your phone! Yes, you read that right. In an era where we do everything on our phone, we have developed a tour without it. Playing without your phone makes that you disconnect from your day to day and connect with your surroundings and colleagues. You are challenged by the different puzzles and riddles. We will trigger your inner child so you can play outside again.

CUSTOM MADE PROGRAM:

We are true game masters with years of experience in teambuilding activities. From groups of 40 up to 200 people, we can design a custom made treasure hunt any where! Our treasure hunts are focussed on communication, collaboration and fun! The group will be divided into smaller teams and we will discover the surroundings while challenging ourselves to solve the challenges. Problem solving and creative thinking are triggered in the hunt to the secret location. Combine one of our games with an small bite and cold drink at the end or we can organise an amazing picnic in the park!

The programs start from 1 hour up to 6 and will be custom made to your wishes. You can choose the start and finish location, this option is great if you want to start from the hotel to the restaurant or from the meeting room to the hotel for example.
